ACCESSIBILITY TO THE GREEN URBAN AREAS
IN RIGA
Studies show that green urban areas play a key role in the comfort of the city inhabitants as well as in regulating local climate (Kondo et al. 2018; Demuzele et al. 2014). An accesibility analysis was done for Riga to determine the distance from major residental areas to the closest green areas using Near tool in ArcGIS.
Results indicate that the peripheral part of the city has a sparse coverage of green areas and therefore there is lower accesibility to them. Territories such as lakes are not classified as green areas, which could possibly alter the results.
TEMPERATURE INTERPOLATION ACROSS LATVIA
Temperature (and other meteodata) is usually registered in meteostations, however multitude of analyses require the data to cover the entire study area. In this project, Kriging interpolation in Geostatistical Wizard tool in ArcGIS method was used to obtain the temperature raster.
A smooth surface was obtained choosing the most appropriate parameters to achieve the highest precision. The resulting raster can be used both as a temperature visualisation as well as input for other studies.
